* INTERVIEW: MAGNUS RUBY BANG *
Why do you live in Copenhagen?
I was born and raised here. Guess it caught me before I even could think of leaving. And it does feel like everything is coming to Copenhagen these years. I’m not sure I’ll stay forever though, but who knows?
Which place close to your home do you always return to?
My kolonihave at Islands Brygge. It's the perfect place to relax, do some meditative gardening work, or invite some friends for dinner and wine. And if it’s too cold or closed, then my workplace, Prolog in the meatpacking. It is always good to catch a coffee and chat with the people there.
What can people in Copenhagen learn from other cities?
Being a bit more messy. I’ve been to Budapest quite a few times in the last few months. And they definitely have a lot of things left to themselves, which might get you to stop and wonder. Flowers shooting up between pavements, weird things left in metro stations, old phone booths covered in stickers and graffiti, etc.
I’m a bit afraid Copenhagen is going to clean everything up and streamline it to a point where there will be nothing left to look at when walking around. I’ve always loved and admired how Søren Ulrik Thomson walks around and describes Copenhagen; the small, odd, and weird details. So to keep that, and not replace it with grey concrete.
Where do you always bring visitors from abroad?
Backyards. Be it at KU by Frue Plads, Nørrebrogade 5, Store Kongensgade 108, or anywhere else, I think they show the differences between the neighbourhoods even better, they kind of catalyse all the small differences and make them visible.
When do you feel the happiest in Copenhagen?
No doubt here. Summer evenings, on my bike, riding through a city bathing in orange sun, from a dinner, towards a bar. Nothing beats those moments. The last time I had that feeling, I rode across Knippelsbro after dinner at Admiralgade 26.
Who do you ask for food/music/art recommendations?
For food, I’m fortunate enough to meet a lot of industry people in my day-to-day work, and they always know what’s up and where to go next. For music, I’ve been so lucky to go to quite a few Brodie Sessions last year. The team behind has great knowledge of what’s going on in music at the moment, so they are my go-to for music recs.
